The laptops below are samples that represent a range of laptops. Choose one of the samples below that most closely represents your laptop either by screen size and / or brand.
Note: It's not a problem if your specific laptop isn't on this page, as these instructions reflect the majority of laptops.
How to Remove your Laptop Screen
Most laptops out there will be similar to this machine (it happens to be a Compaq Presario V2000, 14.0"). While many machines have their own eccentricities, removing their screens will generally be along the same lines as in this particular laptop.
If you do happen to have one of these laptops, they're slightly different from the Compaq above.
Apple iBook G4, 14.1" - Some older model Apple laptops will be similar to this machine. This machine has Allen screws (hexagonal hole, Allen wrench needed), and instead of removing the plastic front bezel, you'll remove the top shell, along with a carefully-aligned interior metal tray.
Apple Macbook, 13.3" - The newer Macbook model Apple laptops will be similar to this machine. This machine has no screws securing the front plastic bezel; it simply snaps off. There is also no latch to be wary of, but there is a webcam camera, as well as a WiFi antenna.
Apple Macbook Pro, 15.4" - The newer Macbook Pro model Apple laptops will be similar to this machine. This machine has no latch to be careful with, but there is a webcam camera. Usually, the screens in these models are glued to the bezel, so care must be taken in removing the screen.
Dell Inspiron B130, 15.4" - Most Dell models will be similar to this machine. Dell machines have the peculiar attribute that the inverter board is often connected to the LCD screen, so that one must remove, and replace, both at the same time.
IBM ThinkPad T30, 14.1" - Most IBM / Lenovo thinkpads will be similar to this machine. In this case, the video cable is plugged into the laptop shell as well as the LCD panel. One must carefully unplug it before removing all the screws in the interior metal framing bracket.
Toshiba Satellite, 15.0" - Like the Compaq machine above, most laptops will be similar to this machine, and so these two sets are the most basic sets of laptop screen removal instructions.
The benefits of using our removal instructions:
Different part numbers
Why use the LCD maker's part number (say, LTN154X7-L02, a Samsung part #), as opposed to the laptop maker's part number (say, 661-3950, an Apple part #)? Wouldn't they both lead to the same screen?
Not necessarily. Laptop manufacturers (like Apple, Dell, IBM, and VooDoo) don't make LCD screens; instead, they purchase them from LCD screen manufacturers (like AU Optronics, Chunghwa, Mitsubishi, and Samsung). But while the LCD screen manufacturer will have one part number for their LCD screen, the laptop manufacturer, will have another of their own ... sometimes, the same number for different screens, or different numbers for the same screen!
This is why we stress that you determine the manufacturer's part number for the LCD screen in your laptop, to ensure we get you the exact screen you need, the first time.
